TWO FANTASTIC PLACES IN LLEIDA

TWO FANTASTIC PLACES !

I'm lucky enough to live in Lleida, which is a small and comfortable city to live. There're loads of interesting areas, but there are two most famous places in Lleida.

Resultat d'imatges de La seu vella lleida
One place that is a must for tourists is "La Seu Vella".
It is a gothic Cathedral that was build from  1203 to 1286 by Pere de Coma. It has a tower with 238 stairs which, if you go up, you'll have the greatest views of Lleida.

Resultat d'imatges de carrer major lleidaThe second place that shouldn't be missed is the Main Street that is called "Carrer Major". There're loads of types of shops, like clothes shops, book shops, music store and even some hairdressers. Apart to going shopping, you can appreciate some of the most old constructions in Lleida. Nowadays some people are still living there.

I recommend this two areas because it can give you the possibility of learning the history of the city and of speanding a fantastic laisure time with your friends or your family.

SCHOOLS IN MY COUNTRY

SCHOOLS IN MY COUNTRY

Did you ever come to Catalonia ? Did you ever see any school ? My High School is different.
There are a lot of different schools; sports schools, arts schools, languages schools, etc. My High School doesn't works with a different way. But it provides a very functional system.

With which kind of system I'm studying now ? I'm actually going to Joan Oró's High School. It presents us a new project called WathsEp.

All the subjects are in english, except spanish, catalan and other optative languages.
English is the more frequently language in the world, so wherever you go you're going to lisent the english.

To enter to this projec you have to pass an exam to conffirm that you've the required level. I started un 1st of ESO doing a 40% of English. In each course the level of English increases, so I would finish the ESO with a 80% of use of English.

In my opinion most schools in my country give a well-rounded education with good teachers that explain us how to use it to real life.

MY BOOK REVIEW

KIDNAPPED

David comes home

"In Mr Rankelloir's comfortable sitting-room, I told him the story of my early life, and explained that my uncle had paid Captain Hoseason to kidnap me and take me to sea.
Although he looked a little worried at first, he promised, and I told him the rest of my adventures. While I talked, his eyes were closed and he seemed to be asleep, but I discovered soon afterwards that he had understood and remembered everything"

I liked that passage because the proganist has been through a lot of tough experiences, as faceing his father death, being kidnapped, being abandoned in a desert island, etc.
I find that now he's in a confortable home, where he's listened with attention and finally he can feel safe.

Character:

David Balfour

As far as I'm concerned, David is tall and slim, with brown eyes and hair. He's a 17-years-old boy who is honest, brave and adventurous.
I like him because he had known to get over his tough life, he never has given up with his problems so he's an example of bravery and courage.

MUSEUM REVIEW

GENESI EXPOSITION - SEBASTIÃO SALGADO

This summer I went to a Caixa Forum's photo exposition in Lleida. It's called Genesi and is a work by Sebastião Salgado, who is a 72-year-old brasilian photojournalist winner of several awards.

This project is based on landscapes, animals, people that represent the origin of our world and its evolution before the modern life. It's all compound of black and white photos. That's because he believes that this way the photos don't depend on the age when they were taken, so it helps to represent the ancient ages.

I liked it very much because the quality of the pictures is amazing, as well as their content. Also, I find the project interesting because it shows things and people that we can't see in our everyday.

EXPERIMENTS ARE FUN!

   SECRET MESSAGE

To start with, we are going to need the juice of half a lemon, some cotton, adhesive tape, a match or a stove or some kind of fire, a toothpick and a paper.

First of all, we going to make a little cotton ball and join the cotton and the toothpick with a piece of tape:

This is the result of the brush that we're going to use:

Squeeze the half lemon to get the juice:

Then dunk the brush in the lemon juice:

And start writing your secret message. At first you'll be able to see it because it will be wet, but then it's going to dry up.

Once the paper has dried up it will look like this:

Finally, when you want to see the text you have to get the paper close to a stove or another heating source and the text will start to appear:

This is our secret message!

My Film Review

SPIDER-MAN

Peter Parker is a boy whose parents died so he is living with his uncle and aunt. Peter studies in the same high school as M.J. Watson, the girl-next-door who he fell in love with in 6th grade.

During a science guided visit in a laboratory, a genetically modified Super Spider bit Peter’s hand. After that, he started having a few changes in his body: he didn’t need glasses anymore, he developed muscles, he could throw some organic spider webs and he could climb walls very fast. To impress M.J. he started wrestling to make some money and buy a car. While he’s fighting, a robber pretending to carjack murdered his uncle. Because of that and remembering the words of his uncle “with great power comes great responsibility” decided to help the citizens of New York.

At the same time, Norman Osborn, his best friend’s father, while trying a nanotechnology experiment, he drank a serum that created an evil and irrational split personality. He started to threaten the New York citizens, becoming the main opponent of Spider-man, and they called him the Green Goblin after his aspect.

Then the Green Goblin goes for the weak point of Spider-man, his heart, so he decides to attack his beloved aunt and Mary Jane. Spider-man fights with all his strength to prevent that but, although he gets to finish him, he thinks it’s better to keep the distance with his loved ones. For this reason, when Mary Jane shows her love to Peter Parker, he says that he sees her only as a friend.

SONGS

Hi! Since music makes summer more funny and energetic I listened to music and tried to understand its lyrics. I post the songs below.

WANTED

Hello! The holidays are almost finished…but  I don't worry because it means that I'm gonna see my friends soon! This summer I did some homework that I'm posting now.

WANTED
DEAD OR ALIVE

She’s a 700-year-old woman. She’s short and very fat. She always wears a grey printed dress, a purple headdress, and a big grey pointed hat. She also needs glasses and has long nails. She always counts on his purple assistant, The Owl. She carries her magic broom everywhere and often flies on it – usually it stalls.
She’s always bored so she has bad mood and is a bit troublemaker, but deeply in her heart she’s not evil.

She was a bad babysitter because she put her children in danger and she killed some. When last seen, she was punishing The triplets.

For this reason the police is looking for her and would like some help.
She calls herself  “The Bored Witch”.

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

Here in my village, la Floresta, it's too hot! Luckily the municipal swimming pool is open all the day and we can have a cold bath when we want! I guess when I finish writing I'm going there!

Yesterday I watched a movie named Fènix 11·23 with my cousin, Júlia. Some people had recommended us this film so we finally decided to watch it. Although I found it a bit slow, I liked it because it has showed me that I really fancy being independent from Spain. I hope it will be soon. In addition, I really like the actor who plays the main character: Nil Cardoner.

My friends have just called me to go to the swimming pool so I have to leave now! I'll write soon!

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

Today I have been to Barcelona. That's because my aunt Roser invited us to have a lunch in her home. I wanted to stay in my home all alone to play with my friends, but sadly my parents didn't let me. :(

So finally I've gone there and I have to say that my aunt has prepared a delicious black rice! I have had another helping three times! It was amazing!

There were also my little cousins. The oldest is 5 years old and the youngest is 3 years old. They are very playful so we always have fun!

I have also seen my aunt's dog Olmo, her cat Kitty, and her two hamsters. They are so cute!

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

This is the last day that I spend in Isil, I'm very sad because I have had a lot of fun here with Blanca's friends.

Yesterday night we didn't enjoy much the concert because I didn't know any song and honestly the musicians weren't very good that's why we're already waken up. We even have had breakfast!

Today my parents are coming to get me to Lleida, so Blanca's parents are going to make a especial lunch for them. I still don't know what it will be but sure it will be very tasty. Following that, we going to a gymkhana all together in the town, and then we going to start our trip to Lleida.

Blanca is coming to Floresta, where I've my second home, another day to visit me. I hope that she will have so much fun as I had here.

Bye!

PS: I posted two photos I took later at the gymkhana!!

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

Today I woke up very late because I went to sleep at 4:30 a.m., so I didn't have breakfast and I had straight lunch. After that we planned a village tour and we enjoyed taking photos. Blanca brought me to a Bear Museum that facined me because there were explained some facts about the bears.

It was very cold so Blanca and I went back early to her house to eat something and we watched a movie. Since it is the village fet¡stivity we have had a family dinner until the mightnight. Blanca's parents have prepared some delicious dishes, like a majestic salads and veggie stuffed cannelloni. For desert we have eaten a chocolate cake. Now we are very full so later we are going to a Rock concert to help our stomaches settle.

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

Now I'm in Isil, a small village in the Pyrenees. I have come with Blanca, a friend of mine, to celebrathe the night of 'Sant Joan'.

In Isil there's the tradition of carrying burning logs from the mountain to the center of the village. That's called 'Falles d'Isil'. We put on an old sweater and trousers, boots and an Isil scarf to protect us from the smoke. There are three levels: the oldest ones climb to the top of the mountain and start descending the logs, the middle ones stay on the middle of the mountain to continue, and the youngest ones meet them at the bottom.

It was the first time that I did it and it was amazing because it's impressive to see so much fire in the darkness.

I'm sleeping here this week, but I'd like to repeat that event another time! Good night!

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

Today I have decided to start my own diary as part of my English homework. It's the second time that I start one. I wish this diary lasts minimum one month.

This year I had a lot of fun and learned so much with my teachers and classmates, but now I'm glad it finished because I want to have some rest.

This summer I hope to have a lot of fun with all my friends and family. I already have some plans: I'm going to Isil to celebrate the night of 'Sant Joan', I'm also going to visit Vielha, and the rest of the time I'm going to spend it in the swimming pool, having some parties and of course learning English!!

So here I go!

About GENDER STEREOTYPES

TANIA'S EXPERIENCE

Twenty years fighting for the women rights

Tania, the younger daughter of a Somali family, is now a 35-year-old woman, married with a Catalan man and they have 2 children.

Tania tells us about the last twenty years of her life, this is the real reason of why she's the "Person of the year".

When she was a teenager she left her country, Somalia, because she was a victim of the gender violence from her father and her husband. Actually she didn't want to marry him. After a lot of difficulties and kilometres she arrived to Catalonia.
When she arrived she thought that their own experience must be useful to avoid more cases of gender violence in Africa.
She created the association called AfricanWomenRights. The association's purpose is to collect money from particular people and public institutions to facilitate education to  girls and to get visibility to the International Comunity, as well as to provide safety to the women that feel assaulted.
This association has allowed that thousands of women had a better life and more freedom.
